White pallet with piles of newspapers printed in black and white. Printed on the newspapers is a serie of black and white street photography from the surrounding of the exhibition place. Photographs are projected on the piles. This work has specifically made for this exhibition Fast Forward.
Eleven artists were commissioned by art venue Pictura to start a study specifically around the question 'How does the future manifest itself in a hundred years in the city of Dordrecht?'. Each artist approached this question from their own ideas and experiences. While one artist is concerned with the disappearing nature in the city, the other looks at developments in the field of urban planning or at the future of society.
My work explores the idea that the now – and the life that is happening – should be the only thing to consider. As the past and the future are only memories or projections and therefore subjective. The future is ingrained in the present and on a more philosophical level, I might argue that we ARE the future by manifesting ourselves in the NOW. The way in which we manifest ourselves is a good indicator for predicting the future.
